Amos Lee

11/25/05 An update to this post: I saw Amos Lee earlier this month and it was the most incredibly boring concert I've ever been to. He's talented alright, but no crowd interaction at all. No personality... B.O.R.I.N.G. Save your money, buy the cd but skip the show.

I saw Amos Lee on Conan O'brien tonight - very pretty music, kinda reminds me of Ray Lamontagne. Check out the videos here

I'd love to see him perform live, there's something really innocent and sweet about him when he performs

I love the EELS!

06/27/2004- ROCK HARD TIMES IN THE USA:BUSH ADMINISTRATION: PROFANITY IS FOR US, NOT FOR EELS:U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney took a shot at Vermont Senator Patrick Leahy, telling him to "Go fuck yourself" during a heated exchange on the Senate floor Tuesday. This is particularly interesting to the EELS because their CD "Daisies of the Galaxy" was used by Bush & Cheney as an example of the music industry releasing CDs with "indecent language" during their 2000 campaign for The White House, going so far as posting "offensive" EELS lyrics on George W. Bush's official website and making public statements about the EELS. After his outburst Tuesday, Cheney noted that he felt better having said it. When asked about the incident, EELS spokesman E said "See? It DOES feel good," then added, "fuck him." The far-reaching effects of this ridiculous hypocrisy can even be felt on the Interscope Records-hosted EELS message board, where the word "fuck" can no longer be used. At least you can still say it on the Senate floor. Rock hard, and scary times, indeed.

Citzen Cope

I'm lovin this guy right now. A review from Amazon.com: Like G. Love, Citizen Cope is a musical mixologist, fusing sluggish hip-hop beats with mellow piano melodies and new-school blues with easy-listening pop. On his debut album, Cope--née Clarence Greenwood, former DJ for the rap group Basehead--sounds at times like both a younger, drawling Sting and a folksy Wyclef Jean as he sings over slow, loose, loungy instrumentals. Though his music is a patchwork of breezy styles, Cope's lyrics tackle some serious subjects. Check him out here and here.

Upcoming show:
8.19
Minneapolis, MN
Fine Line Music Cafe

Mel Gibson and the Pants

What a great band name! And the music ain't bad either. I'm typically not a huge hip hop fan but this is really good. Go!

(if you only knew how long it took me to get the link to work!)

The song

LYRICS

Yea, touch dolphins I fuckin' love you guys ![crowd keeps singing chorus to "Loser"] You guys are great! I wanna touch every one of you! I wanna touch all of you! I want you to touch each other I really really want you to touch dolphins Because dolphins are the secret to the fuckin' universe Right here, tonight And I also like chicken Fuckin' love chicken But I like, motherfucking dolphins! Motherfucking dolphins! Reach out and fuckin' touch some dolphins I'd like to acheive world peace in the next five minutes Right here, we're gonna do it Right here, right now Reach your hand up into the sky And say "Dolphins are real!" This is the greatest fuckin' moment in my life! Right now and I'm gonna live it At least for another 20 seconds OK, I think it's over now It's not the fuckin' best moment of my life But you know I still want to touch dolphins 1, 2, 3... TOUCH DOLPHINS! Yes Fucking touch dolphins Feels so good, touch dolphins in the water Touch dolphins You all know what I'm talkin' about? Because I don't know what I'm talkin' about Fax that to your grandma! Here to defy the logic of all dolphin laws! ["Sexx Laws" starts]

THE SONG
Beck "sang" this little piece on June 8, 2005 in Amsterdam. After "Loser" had finished, he and his band played a slow electro-version of "Loser" briefly, as the crowd sang the chorus. This somehow turned into some new age-y music, with Beck rambling on and on about dolphins. It's pretty funny, and clearly Beck is winging it from the absurd corner of his brain. The funniest part is one of the band members' backing vocals about "touching dolphins in the water" and seeing epiphanies and stuff.

LIVE
Live debut: June 8 2005 Amsterdam, NetherlandsLast live:Beck only "played" this the one time, that I'm aware of.
